General Description:

This New Zealand selected flowering cherry smothers itself in pale pink blossoms in spring. A good vigorous disease resistant variety that is now a proven performer throughout the world. Prunus yedoensis Awanui was selected from trees planted by Keith Adams, one of Taranaki’s many world-famous nurserymen. Keith is best known for his expeditions through the hot steamy jungles of Borneo in search of Tropical Vireya Rhododendrons.

Uses:

We grow two forms of Awanui. Either bottom worked (grafted at ground level) to form an upright pyramidal tree or top worked (grafted onto a standard) to create a clear stemmed spreading tree. Prunus Awanui is ideal as a large shade tree or avenue planting.

Plant Care:

Flowering Cherries are generally hardy but should be planted in a sheltered site to prolong the flowering period. Don’t allow them to dry out during hot dry periods. Stake well until established.
