General Description:

Beautiful selection of Japanese Maple with deep burgundy red foliage in spring and summer.

Uses:

The Red Emperor maple makes a wonderful small shade tree in the garden. Most Japanese Maples respond well to pruning and shaping and this is no exception. You can espalier it against a wall or fence or clip it into a tight topiary shape. Pruning should be done in late winter.

Plant Care:

Japanese maples generally enjoy a sunny sheltered spot in any garden with good well-drained soil. A good organic mulch will help to keep the roots cool and moist during the hot dry spells experienced over the summer months. Trees can be clipped to form dense solid trees or pruned judiciously to create light dappled shade. To increase the height of a weeping maple you can select a strongly growing branch in spring and stake it upright to the desired height.
